Who would have thought it - A Platinum Award!
There are not enough adjectives to describe how we feel. We are thrilled, excited and happy to name a few.
We have, or rather our Extra Virgin Olive Oil has, won a Platinum Award for Quality at the London International Olive Oil Competition, the highest level award.
As we only farm using organic principles, nature has done its work in producing such a quality olive oil. It has an acidity of 0.2, well within the specification to be classified as an Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Then come the polyphenols which everyone asks about, having been educated about the benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. To be officially classified as ‘high polyphenol’ the oil must contain at least 250 mg/kg of polyphenols, this harvest has reached 501 mg/kg.
We did of course play our part too!
Every olive we pick by hand, carefully lifting them off the nets, gently putting them into crates then taking the crates to the frantoio (olive press) in the local village within 24hrs of picking, only to be doing the same the following day…and the next and the next, until every olive has been picked.
It really is a celebration of all our hard work throughout the year as we see the almost fluorescent coloured oil pouring out of the press.
All the pruning, thank you Diego for your help with this, as we’ve said before, we don’t know how to prune, as we’re not Italian, or so we were told!
All the laughs as we spread our organic manure and fertiliser, not one of Chloe and my favourite of jobs!
All the hours spent going from tree to tree checking buds, flowers and bug traps.
It really is a beautiful life, which we are so grateful for. We are even more grateful to all our supporters and returning customers,
We thank you.
